Oilers Split with Troopers

The Casper Oilers split a doubleheader with the Sheridan Troopers today at Lansing Field to open their home schedule.  In game one the Oilers squandered a 3 run lead in the 7th and fell to the Troopers 10-9.  Casper pitcher Zane Mathson (0-1), took the loss in relief.  Eli Ford added 4 RBIs. Aren Williams and Martin Vasquez added 3 hits a piece for the Oiler offense.

Game two saw the Oilers spot Sheridan a 8 run lead through 3 innings.  Casper chipped away though and eventually added 9 unanswered runs of their own to win game two, 9-8.  Casper relief pitcher Lane Fischer (1-0), earned his first win by pitching an impressive 4 and 1/3 innings, allowing only one hit and zero runs. Zane Mathson had a huge game at the plate going 3 for 4 with a grand slam, triple, double,  3 runs, and 6 RBIs.

The Oilers (3-6) will host the Gillette Roughriders at Lansing Field on Sunday, May 31st.  Game times are scheduled for 1 & 3:30pm.

Douglas Hands Drillers First Loss

Douglas got off to a quick start handing the Drillers their first loss 11-1. The Cats rallied early batting through their line-up and scoring 9 runs in the 3rd. However, Clay Brownell came in strong quieting the roar, not giving up any hits and only one earned run in 4 2/3 innings. William Cardova provided most of Casper’s little offense going 2-2 with a pair of singles.

The Dirllers have a big weekend coming up. Hosting Cheyenne Saturday at 1:00 & 3:30 PM at Crossroads, and traveling to Gillette for another douple dip on Sunday.

Sponsor Appreciation Day

The Casper Legion Baseball Club will be hosting Sponsor Appreciation Day on Saturday, May 30th.  The Oilers will be hosting the Sheridan Troopers on Lansing and the Drillers will be hosting the Cheyenne Hawks on Crossroads, both doubleheaders will begin at Noon and 2:30pm.  Bull Whip catering will be on hand for lunch at Noon, come early as they will not be able to stay the entire day.  We will be having a recognition ceremony for all sponsors in attendance on Lansing Field following both late games. Admission into the game is $10.00 which includes your meal. If you have any questions please contact any Board Member or Coach Schoonover.

Oilers Drop Three Straight

The Casper Oilers dropped their last three games in the Spring Classic Tournament in Gillette, WY over Memorial Day weekend. The Oilers lost to the Laramie Rangers 13-9 and the Gillette Roughriders 12 to 4 on Sunday.  Those two losses put Casper at the number four seed for Monday’s game against the Laramie Rangers.  The Rangers got the best of the Oilers again, 12 to 2.

The Oilers will look to move on after falling to 2-5 on the young season as they will take on the Sheridan Troopers on Saturday, May 30th, as part of Sponsor Appreciation Day at Lansing Field. The Oilers will also host the Gillette Roughriders at home on Sunday, May 31st.  Game times are posted under the schedule tab.

Drillers Sweep Rustlers

The Drillers opened up their home schedule with a sweep over Gillette Rustlers.

Dayne Lubenow started the first game allowing 5 runs in 5 innings, leaving with a 6-5 lead. He helped himself out on offense going 2-3 with a couple of scored runs. Casey Karch also went 2-3 with a pair of runs, adding 4 RBIs and a stolen base.

Game 2 turned into a horse race. The Drillers prevailed 13-12, after a game winning RBI by Jeremy Dixon. Casey Karch stayed hot going 4-5 with two more runs, two RBIs, and another stolen base. Clay Brownell also contributed going 3-3 with 2 runs scored and 2 RBIs.

The Drillers play again Wednesday, May 27th, at 6:00 PM against Douglas.

Oilers Split to Start Spring Classic

The Casper Oilers opened up their Spring Classic Tournament games Saturday in Gillette, WY with a split.  In game one Casper lost to the Spearfish Spartans 11 to 8.  Casper had another 6 run inning haunt them defensively and Josh Atkinson (0-1) took the loss on the hill.  Dan Lang had two doubles and Zane Mathson added a solo home run for the Oilers.

Game 2 matched the Oilers with the Mustangs of Rock Springs.  The Oiler offense was lead by Clint Ide who was 2 for 3 with 3 RBIs, 5 runs, and two home runs. Sean Robison added 6 RBIs which included a 3 run homer and a 2 run triple.  Troy Hays was 4 for 5 on the day with 5 RBIs.

The Oilers (2-2) will take on the Laramie Rangers at 9am and the Gillette Roughriders at 7pm on Sunday to conclude the pool play portion of the Spring Classic.

Driller Home Opener Sunday

The Casper Drillers will host the Gillette Rustlers for their 2009 home opener this Sunday, May 24th.  Game times are scheduled for 1 and 3:30pm at Crossroads Field.

Oilers head for Spring Classic

The Casper Oilers will head to Gillette, WY for Memorial Day Weekend to participate in the 2nd Annual Riders Spring Classic Tournament.  The field of 5 teams features the host and defending Wyoming Legion State Champion Gillette Roughriders, Laramie Rangers, Rock Springs Mustangs, and Spearfish Spartans.  The Oilers will start action on Saturday at 11am against Spearfish.  Please check the schedule tab for all game times and check back for all the results of your Oiler games.

Oiler Home Opener Cancelled

The Casper Oilers home opener has been cancelled. The game will be rescheduled as a triangular with the Westco Zephyrs on June 8th at Lansing.  The next Oiler home game will be Sponsor Day, May 30th at Noon & 2:30pm. More information on Sponsor Day will be posted soon.

Drillers Sweep Jets

The Casper Drillers opened up their 2009 season with a sweep of the Sheridan Jets on the road Sunday.

Casper earned a 10 to 2 win in game one. Casper starting pitcher Casey Karch (1-0) pitched 4 innings to earn the win.  Nick Stille also provided 3 innings of relief allowing only one run and one hit.  Offensively, Will Cordova added 3 RBIs and Pat Whited was 2 for 3 with 2 RBIs.

Casper earned the sweep by taking game two, 10 to 0, in 6 innings.  Starting pitcher Jon Robinson (1-0) went the distance allowing 3 hits and 6 walks. Robinson struck out 8 and the Driller defense did not allow a Jet runner to reach 3rd base in the contest. Jeremy Bowland provided 4 RBIs in the game, 3 of which came on a triple in the 3rd inning.

The Drillers will host the Gillette Rustlers for a doubleheader on Crossroads Field on Sunday, May 24th at 1 & 3:30pm.
