The Oilers swept a pair of games on Tuesday against the Sheridan Troopers. In game one it was senior Brandon Watson (7-4) who pitched a complete game three hit shutout to lead the way for the Oilers. Senior Zane Mathson was 3 for 4 on the night along with senior Marcus Loucks who added a couple of hits to lead the Oiler offense which posted runs in each of their offensive innings on their way to a 9-0 victory.
In game two it was Eli Ford (3-1) who lead the way on the mound pitching his second complete game in as many starts as the Oilers were able to win 3 to 1. After scoring in the first inning the Oilers were shut down by Sheridan starter Ben Buckingham through the next four innings. Ford surrendered his only run in the top of the 6th, but it was the Oiler offense who would come through in the bottom of the inning. Alex Hill lead off with a single to left, Aren Williams’ sacrifice bunt pushed Hill to second and it was Zane Mathson’s hit up the middle that drove in the go ahead run. The Oilers would add an insurance run shortly after on a throwing error by the Troopers.
“I was proud of our club for coming out and putting together a great night” Coach Schoonover said, “We really played well in every aspect; solid defense, quality at bats and a couple of great pitching performances.”
