Bobby Schoonover – General Manager/Head Coach
Bobby Schoonover enters his thrid year as Oilers Head Coach in 2011. Bobby is a 1999 graduate of Natrona County High School. He was fortunate enough to play in the Casper Legion Baseball Program from 1997-1999 under notable former coaches Ken Stoick, Randy McIntyre, Bud Sorenson, and Alex Neely. Schoonover then attended the University of Sioux Falls (1999-2000); there he was part of the 2000 USF Cougar’s NAIA South Dakota-Iowa Athletic Conference Championship Baseball Team.
Coach Schoonover returned to Casper in 2000 and started his coaching career with the Casper Legion Baseball Program. He has coached twice before with Legion Baseball, Interim Drillers Coach 2000 and Head Coach of the Casper Barons Inaugural year in 2002. Schoonover has also coached several competitive traveling teams in the Casper are over the past years.
Coach Schoonover brings a well-disciplined, hard-nosed work ethic to Casper Baseball. What his teams may lack in talent, they will make up in fundamentals, hustle, knowledge, and respect for the game.
In the off season Bobby is attending the University of Wyoming/Casper College program in pursuit of an Elementary Education Degree and plans to graduate in the spring of 2012.
Jeff Piel – Oilers Assistant Coach
Jeff Piel enters his third year as Oilers Assistant in the Schoonover era in 2011, making it a grand total of 29 years of coaching baseball in Casper . He has coached several city champions at varying levels in Casper Youth Baseball, several state champions in Babe Ruth Baseball and Hap Dumont Baseball. Jeff coach three competitive teams to state championships and took them to various regional tournaments. Jeff played in the program from 1980-1982. He will finish up his degree in the Spring of 2011 in Secondary Education.
Cameron Corbett – Head Pitching Coach
Cameron Corbett will be entering his first year as the Head Pitching Coach for the Casper Legion Baseball Program. Cameron played five years in the program from 2002-2006. He was also a 2006 Wyoming All-State selection.
After graduating from Natrona County High School in 2005, he attended Colorado Christian University in Denver, CO. He was part of the starting pitching rotation for four years at CCU and was three-time selection to the RMAC All-Academic Team. In his career as a CCU Cougar, he currently holds the most career starts, second most wins, second most innings pitched, and the third most appearance in the history of the program. In May of 2009, Cameron graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from CCU.
“I’m excited to bring back yet another player that I had the privilege to coach in 2002. Being able to watch these young men grow from such a young age, continue on to college, have success, and bring that back to our players will begin to pay dividends immediately. Cameron’s knowledge of the game, work ethic, and character will be great addition to our program.”
Outside of baseball, Cameron works for Continental Industries, he is an avid golfer, and currently engaged to be married in August.
Josh Simms – Driller Head Coach
Josh Simms enters his third year as a coach with the Casper Legion Baseball Club. Josh graduated from Kelly Walsh High School in 2005 and played at all 3 levels of Legion Baseball here in Casper. He then completed 3 years at Green River Community College in NWAACC Conference, graduating with and Associates Degree. His final year was spent in Wichita, KS playing for Friends University, pursing a degree in exercise physiology. Josh will serve as the Drillers Head Coach. In his off time he is proud father a brand new baby girl, while attending the University of Wyoming at Casper College in pursuit of an K-12 Physical Education Teaching Degree.
