Oilers Earn Split with Zephyrs

The Casper Oilers opened their 2009 season on the road in Scottsbluff, Nebraska against the Westco Zephyrs at Cleveland Field on Saturday May 16th.  Casper lost the double header opener by a score of 9 to 8.  Martin Vasquez (0-1) took the loss in relief.  Casper issued 5 free passes which lead to 6 runs in the Westco 2nd inning. Dan Lang had two hits for Casper, one a triple.  Jake Loundagin and Zane Mathson also had a pair of hits in game 1.

Casper starter Brandon Watson (1-0) earned his first win of the year in game two by pitching 6 strong innings while only allowing 2 earned runs on 4 hits. The Oilers broke a 2 to 2 tie in the 5th and never looked back as  they defeated Westco by a score of 9 to 2. Eli Ford lead the way offensively with a 3 for 4 performance . Aren Williams and Zane Mathson also added two hits a piece.

The Oilers (1-1) will face Cheyenne Post 6 on Wednesday, May 20th at Mike Lansing Field for their home opener. Game time for the one 9 inning game is set for 6pm.
